CBS legal fight
continues
As noted last month, CBS Interactive
Inc. has sued the NFL Players' Association, alleging that it is being wrongly
pressured into paying licensing fees to operate its fantasy football games. The
suit was filed in Minnesota, which is part of the Eighth Circuit
-- the same venue where CDM won its case against MLBAM. Since then, the
for-profit marketing arm of the NFLPA has countersued in Florida, which is part of
the Eleventh Circuit. According to New York-based attorney Glenn Colton, who
filed briefs on behalf of the FSTA at the lower court level in the CDM case, the
next stage in the proceedings will be for a venue to be determined. This
could take up to another 3-6 months. At that point, the case could continue in a
similar fashion as the CDM case did, which took three years. Read the original legal
brief here.
